Trump Says Turned Down Maduro's Request For Meeting

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd February, 2019) US President Donald Trump told the CBS broadcaster on Sunday that he had turned down a request for a meeting from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

"Well, he [Maduro] requested a meeting and I've turned it down because we're very far along in the process. You have a young and energetic gentleman but you have other people within that same group that have been very very - if you talk about democracy - it's really democracy in action," Trump said in an interview.

The US leader noted that Maduro had asked for a meeting "a number of months ago."

�On January 23, Juan Guaido, the head of the opposition-controlled Venezuelan National Assembly, proclaimed himself as the country's interim president and was immediately supported by the United States and a number of other countries. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused Guaido of acting at the instruction of the United States and claimed that Washington was plotting together with his government's opponents to overthrow him.
