MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd February, 2019) US President Donald Trump confirmed in an interview released on Sunday that the use of the US military in the Venezuelan crisis was among the possible variants.
On Friday, Trump told reporters that US military action in Venezuela was an option.
"Well I don't want to say that. But certainly it's something that's on the- it's an option," Trump told the CBS broadcaster, when asked whether Washington might use the military in Venezuela.
US National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Friday that the United States had no plans for an imminent military intervention in Venezuela, but all options with regard to the situation in that county remain on the table.
On January 23, Juan Guaido, the speaker of the opposition-led National Assembly, proclaimed himself the country's interim president. The opposition figure was supported by the United States and a number of other countries, while Russia, China, Mexico, and several other states backed Nicolas Maduro as Venezuela's only president. Maduro has repeatedly blamed Washington for being behind a state coup in Venezuela.
