No One Injured In Suspected Car Bomb Blast In Northern Ireland - Parliamentarian

LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th January, 2019) No one was injured in a suspected car blast in the Northern Ireland's city of Derry, Elisha McCallion, a parliamentarian from Sinn Fein party, said Saturday.

Earlier, regional police reported that a car was burning near the Derry courthouse. The police noted that the fire could have started after an explosion of the car. For security reasons, visitors to nearby bars and restaurants have been evacuated.

"Thankfully no one appears to have been injured in this incident. Derry is a city moving forward and no one wants this type of incident. It is not representative of the city," the parliamentarian said in a statement.

The police of Northern Ireland confirmed later that no one was hurt in the incident.

Currently, the police are working at the site of emergency. No further details of the incident were reported.

In the 1970s and 1990s, clashes between local Catholics and Protestants occurred in Northern Ireland, accompanied by terrorist attacks. The attacks also occurred in the 2010s. For example, on February 22, 2017, the New IRA (Irish Republican Army) terrorist group attempted to blow up a police car in Derry.
