Over 25 People Killed In Militants' Attack On Villages In Northwestern Nigeria - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) At least 26 people died as a result of an attack by gunmen on villages in the northwestern Nigerian state of Sokoto, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Trust newspaper, the attack took place on Sunday in the villages of Warwana, Tabkin Kwasa and Dutsi located in the Gandhi district. The attackers arrived at the site on 25 motorcycles and opened fire at civilians.

Police said that after the attack additional security forces had been sent to the area.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Nigeria has been repeatedly plagued by attacks and kidnappings by the Islamist group Boko Haram, which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia). Along with Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, and Chad are also engaged in military operations combating Boko Haram.
