Developing Analogues of Foreign Software Not Sign of Russia's Isolation - Medvedev

Russia's development of foreign software analogues does not signify that the country is on a way to isolation, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday

GORKI (Russia) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) Russia's development of foreign software analogues does not signify that the country is on a way to isolation, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday.

"It is obvious that no country has its own way to the digital world and the fact that we are creating alternatives to foreign software does not mean that we are striving for isolation. That is impossible and first of all counterproductive," Medvedev said at a meeting on development of a Russian mobile operating system.

The prime minister pointed out the need to ensure protection of personal information.

"The state must ensure such guarantees for any person, who is using modern devices, and of course for businesses, for which security of commercial information is a basis for competitiveness," Medvedev noted.

According to the head of the Russian government, ensuring independence in the cyberspace is a matter of national security for Russia.

"Ensuring necessary independence in the cyberspace, creation of new modern digital environment in our country and its protection is a real matter of national security," Medvedev said.

He also praised professionalism of Russian programmers.

Russia has been implementing a full-scale imports substitution program since 2014 when the country was targeted by Western sanctions.
