SBP denies reports of PTI operating 18 undeclared bank accounts

A local publication had reported that the PTI has been operating 26 bank accounts in different cities of the country

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 10th January, 2019) The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has denied the reports of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) operating at least 18 undeclared bank accounts across the country.

Citing a report submitted by the SBP to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), a local publication had reported that the PTI has been operating 26 bank accounts in different cities of the country, but only eight of them have been declared before the commission.

The remaining 18 bank accounts fall in the category of fake or illegal bank accounts as these have not been declared in PTI’s annual audit reports submitted to the ECP as per law, the report said.

The SBP officials termed the report as baseless.

In a clarification statement, the SBP said that the banks provide the details to the ECP themselves.

Every bank is bound to give the desired details to the ECP, SBP officials said.
