Construction of Wall on Border With Mexico Internal Affair of US - Mexican President

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday that plans to build the wall on the US-Mexican border is an internal affair of the United States, refusing to comment on the issue

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th January, 2019) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday that plans to build the wall on the US-Mexican border is an internal affair of the United States, refusing to comment on the issue.

"We will not comment on the plans, which are created by the internal situation in the United States. We believe that there is an internal conflict in the United States every time elections are looming," Lopez Obrador said at his daily press conference.

Currently there is a 600-mile barrier, primarily consisting of 16-foot high fencing, along the 1,900-mile US-Mexico border. US President Donald Trump wants to erect a barrier over 30 feet tall on more than 200 miles of the border that would include new and replacement barriers.

The government shutdown in the United States began on December 22 after a series of discussions between the Trump administration and Democrats failed to yield an agreement on funding for the border wall with Mexico. Trump is asking for over $5 billion, despite the fact that he had repeatedly promised that Mexico would pay for the wall. Democrats have reminded the president about his pledge and, therefore, are willing to give him only $2 billion for the border wall funding.
