German Cabinet on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on Frank Magnitz, the chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Bremen and a Bundestag member.
BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th January, 2019) German Cabinet on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on Frank Magnitz, the chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Bremen and a Bundestag member.The politician was attacked not far from Bremen's Theater am Goetheplatz on Monday, according to the reports. The police said that the attack might have been politically motivated, adding that the probe into the case was underway.
"The brutal attack on the Bundestag member Frank Magnitz in Bremen is to be strongly condemned. We hope that the police will quickly catch the criminals," Cabinet spokesman Steffen Seibert said.
At the same time, Alexander Gauland, the co-leader of right-wing AfD in the Bundestag, told reporters that the attack had been clearly politically motivated. He added that he had spoken on the phone with Magnitz, who said that it was related to a political conflict in Bremen around the installation of a monument. The politician was attacked by the supporters of this action, according to Gauland.
The attack comes after an explosion went off in front of a AfD office in the city of Doebeln in Germany's eastern state of Saxony. Nobody was injured as a result. The police detained three suspects in connection with the blast.
