A total of 2 million Ukrainians have taken advantage of the visa-free regime with the European Union since its introduction in June 2017, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Thursday

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd January, 2019) A total of 2 million Ukrainians have taken advantage of the visa-free regime with the European Union since its introduction in June 2017, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Thursday.

"Two millions of Ukrainians have already taken advantage of visa-free regime with the European Union ... And we continue opening the world to Ukrainians and opening Ukraine to the world!" Poroshenko posted on Facebook.

He specified that Ukraine enjoyed a visa-free regime with over 100 countries already and continued the effort toward abolishing visas with other states.

Since June 2017, Ukrainian citizens holding biometric passports can travel to Schengen area without a visa and spend up to 90 days there during each 180-days period starting from the date of the first entry. The visa-free regime enables Ukrainians to travel for business, leisure, and family-related purposes, but not to receive a permit to work or study.

Back in November 2018, Poroshenko said that Ukrainians had crossed the EU borders 20 million times during the the one-year period ending on June 11, 2018.
