STOCKHOLM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd January, 2019) Danish police are investigating the circumstances of the train accident on the Great Belt Bridge, which links the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen, while the lives of those injured in the accident are not in danger, Lars Braemhoej, the spokesman of the Police of Denmark, said on Wednesday.

"We are not aware of the exact reason behind the accident, but we can confirm that a cargo had fallen from a freight train, and as a result a train collided with this cargo and was significantly damaged," Braemhoej said, as quoted by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, specifying that injuries that passengers of the train had suffered did not constitute threat to their lives.

The spokesman specified that rescue team's work was hindered by strong wind.

The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. local time (6:30 GMT) due to the train's heavy braking after a collision with the cargo that fell from the passing freight train. There were 131 passengers in the train.

According to the latest estimates of the Funen police, six people have been killed and 16 others injured in the accident.
