Russian Foreign Ministry Advises Russians in Egypt to Be Vigilant After Terrorist Attack

The Russian Foreign Ministry recommends Russian citizens to be vigilant and to avoid visiting areas in Egypt where the terrorist threat level was high in the wake of the recent attack in the country

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th December, 2018) The Russian Foreign Ministry recommends Russian citizens to be vigilant and to avoid visiting areas in Egypt where the terrorist threat level was high in the wake of the recent attack in the country.

The terrorist attack occurred on Friday. Three tourists and one Egyptian national, their guide, were killed as an improvised explosive device blast hit their tour bus 2.5 miles from the Giza pyramids. Eleven other tourists on the bus and their driver were injured in the incident. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that the bus went off the safe tourist route before it was hit by the blast.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry reminds Russian citizens in Egypt that they are currently recommended to exercise caution and avoid visits to areas of increased terrorist attack danger," a statement published on the ministry's website read.

The ministry noted that Russia extended its condolences to the people affected by the terrorist attack and expressed sympathy to those injured in the incident. The ministry also reiterated its condemnation of terror acts.

"We confirm our principled position of categorical condemning any terrorist attacks, including those aimed at foreign tourists. We again proclaim our solidarity with the actions of the Egyptian authorities toward stabilizing the situation in the country. We support its firm steps on countering terrorism and extremism," the statement read.

Egyptian investigators have launched a probe into the Friday explosion, and have already collected the remains of the explosive device and footage from street surveillance cameras.

Meanwhile, Al Bawaba news outlet reported, citing security sources, that the improvised explosive device had been detonated by remote control.
