Syrian Embassy in Amman Voices Need to Expand Jordan Embassy in Damascus' Diplomatic Staff

Ayman Alloush, the Syrian charge d'affaires in Amman, voiced in an interview with Sputnik the necessity to expand the diplomatic staff of the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus.

AMMAN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th December, 2018) Ayman Alloush, the Syrian charge d'affaires in Amman, voiced in an interview with Sputnik the necessity to expand the diplomatic staff of the Jordanian Embassy in Damascus.

"We want the Jordanian Embassy in Syria to be presented fully. Employees that are currently [in the Jordanian Embassy in Syria] are in fact administrative staff members who received diplomatic ranks in the course of their work," Alloush said.

He added that the Jordanian Foreign Ministry had initiated upgrading the level of the embassy's representation.

Alloush told Sputnik that the Syrian Embassy in Amman's diplomatic staff included seven or eight diplomats and therefore was the highest-ranking one in the Foreign Ministry.

The official also said that there were "positive messages" concerning appointing a Syrian ambassador to Jordan, while no specific political steps had been made.

Earlier in the day, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reopened its embassy in Damascus after a six-year closure triggered by the Syrian civil war eruption. Back in 2011, over 30 countries closed their embassies or relocated diplomatic staff to Beirut due to the armed conflict.

The UAE is the first Arab country to restore the work of its embassy in Syria.
