Russian Consulate General In Barcelona Has No Information On Russians Injured In Clashes

MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) The Russian Consulate General in Barcelona has not received any appeals for help from Russian nationals amid the ongoing clashes between protesters and police in the city, a spokesperson for the Russian diplomatic mission told Sputnik.

"There have been no appeals for help from Russian citizens. There was no information that any of the Russian citizens were injured," the spokesperson said.

On Friday, the Catalan capital was hit by violent protests that resulted in activists' clashes with police officers of the Mossos d'Esquadra. According to the latest data, 12 people were detained and 43 were injured, including 28 law enforcement officers.

The protesters are trying to break through the police cordon to Llotja de Mar palace, where the Spanish cabinet is meeting.

Catalan pro-independence activists have repeatedly held rallies since the Spanish central authorities refused to recognize the results of the October 2017 independence referendum, and subsequently dissolved the regional parliament and introduced direct rule over Catalonia.

At the referendum, over 90 percent of those who participated in the vote supported Catalonia's secession from Spain
