NEW DELHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Eight people, including a six-month-old baby, have been killed and another 145 have been injured as a result of a fire at a hospital in the western Indian city of Mumbai, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Times of India newspaper, 28 people are currently in a critical condition. The fire is reported to have started at around 4 p.m. local time on Monday (10:30 GMT) and might have been triggered by short circuit in a window air conditioner on the ground floor.

"The ground floor had stacks of rubber rolls, which are combustible material. This is likely to have aided the fire, presumably triggered by a short circuit," an officer was quoted as saying by the media outlet.

The newspaper also reported that the hospital had failed to comply with fire safety norms, with one of the witnesses saying that one of the exits from the building was blocked and people had only one way out.
