Aamir Liaquat’s apology accepted in contempt of court case

Accepting his apology, the court withdrew the contempt of court notice against him.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 13th December, 2018) The Supreme Court has accepted the apology of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA and tv Host Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s apology in the contempt of court case.

Accepting his apology, the court withdrew the contempt of court notice against him.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that your face doesn’t look like you are sorry.

On previous hearing, the court had framed charge-sheet against the accused after rejecting his unconditional apology and maintained that the politician had violated court orders on March 6, 2017 that counted as contempt of court, however PTI leader pleaded not guilty. "I seek an unconditional apology and leave myself at the mercy of the court,"Liaquat said during the hearing.

Liaquat was charged under Article 204 (3) of the Constitution.

In August, the apex court had initiated contempt of court proceedings against Dr Aamir Liaquat while taking up petitions filed by anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada, Independent Media Group, and Jang and Geo Group.

The petitioners had pleaded that contempt proceedings be initiated against Dr Aamir Liaquat for not complying with the court orders allowing him to continue his programme on the condition that he would abstain from using derogatory words against anyone. They alleged that Dr Aamir Liaquat did not comply with the court orders.
