Next Hearing In Manafort Case Tentatively Scheduled For January 25 - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) A US district court judge has tentatively scheduled the next hearing in the case of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort for January 25, US media reported.

The court would hear disputes whether Manafort breached his plea agreement with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, USA Today reported on Tuesday.

Manafort's lawyers said they needed more time to evaluate allegations that the former Trump associate lied to the special counsel and breached his plea deal. They added a hearing might not be needed after they have enough time to review the allegations made by the prosecutors.

The defense has until January 7 to file any disputes, and the government will have until January 14 to reply, the report added.

Mueller said in a court filing last month that Manafort broke his plea deal by lying about his contacts with Russian officials and the White House while he was in prison.

Mueller's filing said Manafort "breached his plea agreement in numerous ways by lying to the FBI," including about his interactions with Russian associate Konstantin Kilimnik. The document also stated that the former campaign manager provided wrong information about a wire-transfer to a firm that was working for him.

Manafort reached the plea agreement with Mueller in September after a jury found him guilty of eight charges of tax evasion and bank fraud by a jury in the US state of Virginia in August.
