About 80% of Ukrainian Citizens Blame Authorities for Social, Economic Problems - Poll

Around 80 percent of Ukrainian citizens blame the Ukrainian authorities for the multiple social and economic problems in the country, a fresh poll showed.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th December, 2018) Around 80 percent of Ukrainian citizens blame the Ukrainian authorities for the multiple social and economic problems in the country, a fresh poll showed.

According to the poll conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), 82 percent of Ukrainians are negatively assessing the social and economic situation in the country while 14.3 percent more called the situation mediocre.

"Answering the question, who is responsible for the turmoil, 78.6 percent of respondents chose the variant 'incompetent and/or corrupt officials, who remain in power.' The 'Russian military aggression' was named by 5.6 percent [of respondents], 'opposition figures, who are impeding the work of government bodies and destabilizing the situation in the country' by 3 percent, 'excessive Western interference in the internal affairs of Ukraine' by 2.4 percent," KIIS said.

The poll showed that 34.3 percent of respondents did not hope that the situation would improve in the near future, while 15.4 percent of Ukrainians believe that the situation could be improved by opposition politicians. Other 52 percent of Ukrainian citizens believe that it is necessary to change both the country's leadership and the rules, by which the society lives.

The poll was conducted on November 23-December 3 with 2,000 respondents from 110 settlements across Ukraine (except territories controlled by the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk) having been surveyed.
