Trump Says His ex-Lawyer Cohen Should Serve 'Full, Complete Sentence' - Statement

President Donald Trump said in a Twitter post on Monday his former lawyer Michael Cohen should serve full prison sentence for all crimes he has committed and insisted that the attorney's wrongdoings have no relation to himself.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd December, 2018) President Donald Trump said in a Twitter post on Monday his former lawyer Michael Cohen should serve full prison sentence for all crimes he has committed and insisted that the attorney's wrongdoings have no relation to himself.

Cohen last week pleaded guilty to charges of lying to Congress about plans to build a Trump-branded real estate project in Moscow. His lawyers have asked a judge for no jail time, as Cohen has been cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence," Trump wrote in his tweet.

The US president argued that he had no role in all of the "terrible things" that Cohen has done, including tax fraud lying to Congress.

Trump reiterated his earlier statement that Cohen was making up stories to get a lesser sentence for himself. The US president earlier said he did not proceed with the project in Moscow and if he would have, it was not a secret or illegal deal.

Cohen claimed that he had discussed the project with Trump three times during the election campaign, thereby backtracking on his 2017 testimony to Congress that all the talks on the issue had been completed in January 2016.

In August, Cohen pleaded guilty to other Federal charges involving his businesses, bank fraud and his campaign work for Trump.

The charges resulted from Mueller's ongoing investigation into allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 US election, as well as potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Russia has repeatedly denied charges of meddling in the vote, noting that no evidence has been put forward to substantiate the allegations. Trump has also denied allegations of collusion and has denounced Mueller's Russia investigation as a "witch hunt."
