France to Increase Annual Spending on Renewable Energy From $6Bln to Some $8-9Bln - Macron

France is going to increase its spending to promote the use of renewable energy from 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion) to 7-8 billion euros per year, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday.

PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th November, 2018) France is going to increase its spending to promote the use of renewable energy from 5 billion Euros ($5.6 billion) to 7-8 billion euros per year, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday.

"Today the [French] state is spending 5 billion euros per year to develop renewable energy ... Under the [adopted] plan, from 7 to 8 billion euros will be allocated annually to [the renewable energy sector]," Macron said during a speech at the Elysee Palace.

Macron also announced that France would close 14 of the country's 58 nuclear reactors currently in operation by 2035.

The French president's speech came amid nationwide protests over fuel tax hikes, which Macron promised to adjust to the developments in the international oil market.
