German Court Rules Bin Laden Ex-Bodyguard's Deportation to Be Lawful

The Gelsenkirchen Administrative Court validated the deportation of Sami A., the former bodyguard of Al Qaeda terror group (banned in Russia) leader Osama Bin Laden, to Tunisia in July, the court's press release said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd November, 2018) The Gelsenkirchen Administrative Court validated the deportation of Sami A., the former bodyguard of Al Qaeda terror group (banned in Russia) leader Osama Bin Laden, to Tunisia in July, the court's press release said Wednesday.

According to the court, there is no longer any reason to assume that Sami A. would be tortured in his native country since the Tunisian side pledged to the German government that he would be safe.

The court blocked the deportation order in July, shortly after Sami A. was deported back to Tunisia, over lack of guarantees that he would not be tortured after his arrival, as German law prohibits deportation of a person if there is any risk of being executed or tortured in a home country. According to that verdict, the authorities responsible for deportation of Sami A. were to return him to Germany and to cover all the deportation costs.

Sami A. had been living in the city of Bochum with his German wife and children since 1997. The German authorities suspect him of receiving Al Qaida's military training in Afghanistan in 1999 and 2000 and working as Osama Bin Laden's bodyguard during that time. Germany had been seeking to extradite him to Tunisia from as far back as 2006. Last year, a German court ruled that extradition was impossible because Sami A. would likely face torture in his homeland.
