MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) The number of Afghan servicemen killed in clashes with the militants of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan's western province of Farah has risen to 45, media reported on Thursday, citing local authorities.

Overnight into Thursday, Taliban militants captured three security check points in Farah. Previous reports said that 35 security personnel had been killed in clashes with militants.

Khair Mohammad Noorzai, a provincial consul member, told 1TV broadcaster that a district's police chief was killed in the Taliban attack.

Farah province has been among the areas most vulnerable to the Taliban's simmering insurgency.

Afghanistan has been struggling to achieve stability for years as central authorities have been fighting the Taliban and a number of terrorist organizations, including the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) that are attempting to gain a foothold in the country.
