Cuba To Buy 900 Railway Carriages From Russia Worth $54Mln - Manufacturer

HAVANA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st October, 2018) Russian rolling stock manufacturer RM Rail will deliver 900 railway carriages to Cuba, with their cost amounting to 48 million Euros ($54.32 million), Andrei Aleksandrov, deputy director general of economy and marketing strategy at RM Rail, told reporters on Wednesday.

"Nine hundred RM Rail railway carriages, with different manufacture types. We have already developed seven new types of railway carriages for the Cubans, and will conduct deliveries in the next two or three years," Aleksandrov told reporters.

He added that the contract value was at 48 million euros, specifying that Russia would loan this sum of money to Cuba.

"Our Cuban colleagues have specific requirements, and we had to develop new types of railway carriers literally from scratch, namely, a carriage or sugar cane transportation, a cement carriage for their climatic conditions, there are no such carriages in Russia," Aleksandrov said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said that the total value of contracts signed during his visit to Cuba on Monday and Tuesday exceeded $260 million.
