The task force co-chaired by Russia's Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Anna Kuznetsova and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a meeting on Tuesday and determined further specific steps to return about 100 Russian children held with their mothers in an Iraqi prison to homeland, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) The task force co-chaired by Russia's Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Anna Kuznetsova and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a meeting on Tuesday and determined further specific steps to return about 100 Russian children held with their mothers in an Iraqi prison to homeland, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"There was a discussion of issues related to return to homeland of Russia's minors from combat zones in Iraq and Syria, including about 100 Russian children who are currently held with their mothers in a prison in Baghdad. The task force summarized the interim results of the work done to identify these children, prove their maternal kinship, restore necessary documents confirming their Russian citizenship as well as determined further specific steps to return these children to Russia," the statement said.

The process of the return of Russian women and children from Iraq and Syria was launched after the RT broadcaster filmed in August 2017 a Baghdad orphanage housing Russian children, whose parents smuggled them from the country and joined terrorists. Since then about 100 women and children have already returned back to Russia with the assistance of the Chechen authorities.
