WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and newly-appointed Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin discussed by phone regional security concerns including the North Korea crisis, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press release.
"Pompeo and Secretary Locsin discussed ongoing efforts to address regional issues such as North Korea, the South China Sea, and counterterrorism," Nauert said on Thursday.
Pompeo congratulated Locsin on his new position in the Philippines government, Nauert said. He previously served as the Philippine Ambassador to the United Nations.
Pompeo reaffirmed the US-Philippine alliance and acknowledged the country's critical role in the Indo-Pacific region, Nauert said.
