Finnish Defense Minister Starts Israel Trip, to Focus on Cooperation, Security - Statement

Finnish Defense Minister Jussi Niinisto will discuss regional security, material cooperation, participation in crisis management operations with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman during a working trip to Israel from Monday through Wednesday, the Finnish Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

HELSINKI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th October, 2018) Finnish Defense Minister Jussi Niinisto will discuss regional security, material cooperation, participation in crisis management operations with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman during a working trip to Israel from Monday through Wednesday, the Finnish Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"The ministers will discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries, regional security situation, materiel cooperation and crisis-management operations," the statement said.

During his visit, Niinisto will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in Jerusalem. The Finnish minister will meet with the head of mission, Norway's Maj. Gen. Kristin Lundin, and deputy chief of staff, Col. Petteri Kajanmaa.

The UNTSO mission is set up to observe and maintain a truce between Israel and the neighboring Arab states and to prevent the escalation of incidents in crisis situations. About 20 Finnish citizens are working in the mission, the ministry specified.
