Kurds Essential Part of Syria, Should Feel Free - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

The Kurdish territories in Syria are an crucial part of the Arab republic and the Kurds should feel as though they have a sense of freedom in the country, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin told Sputnik on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) The Kurdish territories in Syria are an crucial part of the Arab republic and the Kurds should feel as though they have a sense of freedom in the country, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin told Sputnik on Friday.

"We believe that the Kurdish territories, territories where the Kurds live along with many Arabs , are, of course, an indispensable part of the Syrian territory, and the Kurds should feel good and free in Syria," Vershinin said.

The Syrian Kurds announced the creation of the Federal region of Rojava in 2016, with Damascus saying the move had no legal power. Later in 2016, the region was renamed to the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria.

The Kurds played an active role in defeating the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia). They also engage in clashes with the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA).
