Launch Of Constitutional Commission's Work Impeded By 'Small Group' On Syria - Minister

DAMASCUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th September, 2018) The launch of the work of the Syrian constitutional commission is hampered by the negative impact of the so-called Small Group on Syria on the activities of UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, who, as a result, lost his neutrality, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem told the RT broadcaster.

The Small Group on Syria comprises Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

"[De Mistura's approach] is not neutral. If it were neutral, we would already evidence the work of the constitutional commission. What is the reason? The reason lies in the existence of so-called small international group which has a negative influence on de Mistura's work," Muallem said in an interview.

"We implement the agreements [reached] in Astana and Sochi as well as our obligations as part of Russia's and the [Islamic Republic [of Iran's] efforts to find a right solution that would serve the interests of the Syrian people in the political process," Muallem stressed.
