US Awards Shipbuilders Nearly $9Bln To Deliver 10 Guided Missile Destroyers - Pentagon

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) Two shipbuilding companies won nearly $9 billion combined to build and deliver ten US Navy Arleigh Burke-class (DDG-51) guided missile destroyers, the Defense Department said in a press release.

"Huntington Ingalls Industries, Pascagoula, Mississippi, is awarded a $5,104,668,778... contract for construction of six DDG 51 class ships," the release said on Thursday. "Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is awarded a $3,904,735,559... contract for construction of four DDG 51 class ships."

Huntington Ingalls is required to deliver two ships in fiscal year 2018 and one per year from 2019 to 2022, the release added. Bath Iron Works, according to the release, will deliver one per year from 2019 to 2022.

DDG 51 class guided-missile destroyers are warships capable of conducting multi-mission offensive and defensive anti-air, anti-sub, and anti-surface warfare, according to the US Navy.
