Russia's Krasnogorsky Zavod Says Plans to Work With German Leica on Zenit Camera Revival

Russia's Krasnogorsky Zavod and German camera manufacturer Leica will revive the production of the legendary Zenit camera, a representative of the factory told Sputnik

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th September, 2018) Russia's Krasnogorsky Zavod and German camera manufacturer Leica will revive the production of the legendary Zenit camera, a representative of the factory told Sputnik.

"Zenit and Leica initially agreed to produce a limited number of Zenit M cameras. However, this is not a limited edition with new functions, but cameras with a limited edition design, in exclusive packaging with an individual number. It will be a limited series, only 500 numbered cameras and Zenitar 35 mm f/1 lenses, available for purchase in Russia and Europe," the factory representative said.

The factory will analyze the results of the project and decide what camera to issue next.

"It might be a mirror lens camera, or, perhaps, a more advanced rangefinder camera," the factory representative said.

The manufacturer believes that the price will be "adequate to the brands that participate in the project."

"By default, a Leica camera cannot cost the same as mass-produced cameras. The Leica brand name equals quality. They [Leica] gave us all the necessary technical parameters that we committed to reproducing when making lenses," the factory representative said.

The resulting Zenit camera will cost somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 Euros ($5,885-$7,062).

Both an experienced user and a beginner will be able to use the camera and the lens, the representative said.
