US Army Paying Norwegian Firm $498Mln For Remotely Operated Weapon Station - Pentagon

(Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th September, 2018) The Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace Company (KDA) in Norway has won a nearly half a billion Dollar US Army contract to continue producing the M153 Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS), the US Department of Defense said.

"Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS [of] Kongsberg, Norway was awarded a $498,289,506... contract for continued production, sustainment and engineering services for the M153 Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station," the Defense Department said in a press release on Friday.

The CROWS system is a remote weapon station for use within armored vehicles. It provides an operator with the ability to acquire and engage targets while inside a vehicle, protected by its armor, according to published reports.

CROWS is designed to mount on a variety of vehicle platforms and supports the Mk 19 grenade launcher, M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, M240B Machine Gun, and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon.
