China, Russia Reaffirm Commitment to Denuclearization of Korean Peninsula - Statement

China and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) China and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

On Monday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and his Chinese counterpart Kong Xuanyou held a meeting in Moscow.

"The Chinese and Russian sides agreed to maintain close contact and play a constructive role in the denuclearization and establishment of a sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula," the Chinese ministry said in a statement.

The sides urged all parties to the conflict to stick to "the political vector" of settlement of the nuclear problem.

The bilateral meeting took place following the cancellation of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's planned trip to North Korea. On Friday, US President Donald Trump said that he had told his top diplomat to call off his trip to North Korea due to insufficient progress in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
