Ship Laying TurkStream Pipeline Sets World Record for Offshore Pipelay Speed - Gazprom

The pipe-laying vessel Pioneering Spirit, which is engaged in the construction of the TurkStream natural gas pipeline, has set a new world record for the offshore pipelay speed, Russia's energy giant Gazprom, responsible for the pipeline's construction, said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th August, 2018) The pipe-laying vessel Pioneering Spirit, which is engaged in the construction of the TurkStream natural gas pipeline, has set a new world record for the offshore pipelay speed, Russia's energy giant Gazprom, responsible for the pipeline's construction, said on Monday.

"On August 26, the Pioneering Spirit vessel set a new world record for offshore pipelay 6.27 kilometers (3.89 miles) per 24 hours within the implementation of the TurkStream project," the company said in a statement, adding that the vessel belonged to the Allseas company.

The joint Russian-Turkish project, which was announced in 2014, envisages the construction of a gas pipeline comprising two legs, each with the capacity of 15.7 billion cubic meters (554 billion cubic feet) per year. The first leg is set to deliver gas across the Black Sea to Turkey, while the other one will transport natural gas to Eastern European countries via Turkish territory.

In 2016, Gazprom-owned South Stream Transport B.V. company and Allseas Group S.A. signed a contract for the construction of the first leg. The pipeline is expected to launch in 2019.
