(Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th August, 2018) Proposed new legislation put before the US Congress seeks to prevent President Donald Trump from revoking the security clearances of his political enemies, Congressman Adam Schiff said in a statement.
"Just introduced legislation with [Congressman] Jim Langevin to prevent President Trump from retaliating against those on his �enemies list by revoking their security clearances," Schiff, a Democrat from California, said via Twitter on Friday.
Schiff maintained that the process of issuing, maintaining and revoking security clearances had to be dictated by national security priorities, not political factors.
"The security clearance process must be governed by national security concerns - not political payback," Schiff added in his tweet.
Trump has revoked the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan. On Monday, the president sent a Twitter message saying he hoped Brennan would sue him over the move so that he can be exposed as the worst director in CIAs history.
