Hurricane Lane Downgraded To Category 3 As Rains Drench Hawaii

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) Dangerous Hurricane Laine has been downgraded to Category 3 as it bears down on Hawaii Islands, with heavy rainfall spreading out way ahead of the storm, the US National Weather Service said.

"Lane is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, but Lane is expected to remain a hurricane as it draws closer to the islands," it said in an advisory.

The storm is packing winds of up to 125 miles per hour with higher gusts. As a slow moving hurricane, it represents a threat to the Hawaiian Islands chain in the Pacific Ocean, producing excessive rainfall, flash floods and landslides.

US President Donald Trump has declared emergency in the state. He said in a statement that everyone in the hurricanes path should prepare themselves and heed the warnings of local authorities.
