MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Friday he would call a meeting of the ruling Liberal party on a leadership vote after receiving a request from its majority.
"I have just been provided with a request for a meeting of the Parliamentary Liberal Party. It has 43 signatures. As soon as they are verified by the Whips, which should not take long, the meeting will be called," he tweeted.
Turnbull was challenged on Thursday to hold another leadership contest by his key rival Peter Dutton, the former home affairs minister, who said he had lost support of the party majority.
A prime minister in Australia is also the leader of the main party. Turnbull said he would call a meeting to consider the ballot motion if he received a letter from 43 party members demanding a change of leadership. That condition was met on Friday, clearing the path for his ouster.
