Giuliani Says Trump Sought Advice About Possible Manafort Pardon Weeks Ago - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th August, 2018) US President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Trump asked for advice several weeks ago on a possible pardon for his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, US media reported on Thursday.

The Washington Post reported that Giuliani said Trump was upset over how Federal prosecutors were treating Manafort as his trial on bank and tax fraud charges got underway.

The report said Giuliani and Trump's other lawyers told the president he should wait until Special Counsel Robert Mueller finished his investigation before issuing a pardon to Manafort.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said there were no discussions going on about a possible pardon for Manafort.

On Tuesday, a jury found Manafort guilty of eight out of 18 counts against him in his bank and tax fraud trial. The judge declared a mistrial on the other ten counts.
