MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) Attempts by the United States to force the Philippines to abandon the purchase of Russian weapons in favor of US weapons are an example of unfair competition, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.
Randall Schriver, the US assistant defense secretary for Asian and Pacific security affairs, warned on August 16 that the Philippines' purchase of Russian military equipment might have an adverse impact on the country's cooperation with the United States, claiming that Washington was a better partner for Manila than Moscow.
"This is a vivid example of unfair competition, the desire to promote the interests of own industrial sector. Besides, such statements indicate that the US is intensifying its propaganda work to give such a negative political color to defense industry cooperation with other countries," Zakharova said at a briefing.
She said Russia considers such behavior unacceptable.
