MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) Russia regrets the US decision not to take part in the conference on Afghanistan set to be held in Moscow on September 4, this move highlights the falsity of Washington's peaceful rhetoric toward Afghanistan, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
"It is with regret that we have learned from the statement of the US State Department that the United States refuses to participate in the Moscow format meeting on September 4 this year, where representatives of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Iran, India and five Central Asian countries, along with the United States, have been invited," the ministry's statement read.
The ministry noted, however, that Moscow was not surprised with Washington's decision as it had skipped the previous meeting in April 2017.
"The decision of the US side has once again highlighted the falsity of Washington's peaceful rhetoric towards Afghanistan, whose long-suffering people have undergone and continue to suffer immeasurable misfortunes and bear huge losses over the past 17 years as a result of US policy in this country," the statement stressed.
