ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th August, 2018) Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and speaker of the Turkish parliament Binali Yildirim discussed on Saturday the joint efforts of Russia, Turkey and Iran aimed at settling the Syrian conflict, the press service of the Russian parliament's lower chamber said.

On Friday, a State Duma delegation, headed by Volodin, arrived in Turkey for a two-day visit.

"The speaker of the State Duma and the speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly stressed the success of joint efforts of Russia, Turkey, and Iran in Syria," the press service said.

The Russia-Turkey-Iran efforts helped bring peace to the Arab country, Volodin noted.

"Russia, Turkey, and Iran have joined efforts to counter terrorism and helped the Syrian government to fight the actually formed terrorist state [the Islamic State terror group, outlawed in Russia] And now the peace has come to the long-suffering Syrian land," Volodin said, as quoted by the website.

For his part, Yildirim agreed with Volodin and stressed that the three countries should strengthen their solidarity.

According to a member of the Russian delegation, Volodin also invited Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to visit the State Duma during the minister's next trip to Moscow.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces battling against numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations. Russia along with Turkey and Iran are guarantors of the ceasefire regime in Syria. Moscow has also been providing humanitarian aid to the residents of the crisis-torn country.
