According to the press service, the two parties discussed matters related to bilateral military and defense industry cooperation. Both officials voiced their willingness to enhance ties between the armed forces of the two countries.

In January, Fomin said that Myanmar was going to purchase six Su-30 fighter jets from Russia. He expressed confidence then that the jet, which had proved to be "a world class warplane," would become the main aircraft used by the Myanmar Air Force.

The Myanmar Air Force already procured six Russian Yak-130 combat training aircraft in 2016 and 2017, and an additional batch of six jets is set to be delivered this year.
