Norways Delegation Starts Business Trip to Crimea - Crimean Lawmaker

A delegation from Norway has started a business trip to Crimea, during which the upcoming visit of another group of Norwegian officials, planned for October, will be discussed, Yuri Gempel, the head of the Crimean parliament's committee on international relations, said on Friday.

SIMFEROPOL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) A delegation from Norway has started a business trip to Crimea, during which the upcoming visit of another group of Norwegian officials, planned for October, will be discussed, Yuri Gempel, the head of the Crimean parliament's committee on international relations, said on Friday.

"A Norwegian delegation arrived for a business visit to Crimea. We will hold a working meeting with them, which will be attended by a representative of our Foreign Ministry, among others. We will discuss the arrival of a large Norwegian delegation in October, the planned agenda and expectations from the October visit," Gempel said.

The group is headed by Hendrik Weber, the president of the Norwegian NGO People's Diplomacy.

During its trip to Crimea, the delegation is set to attend a bike show in Sevastopol, Gempel added.

"The Norwegians have posed some concrete questions about the development of business in Crimea. There are likely to be some small pilot projects. If they are successful, more significant investment will follow," Gempel pointed out.

In March 2014, Crimea rejoined Russia after almost 97 percent of the peninsula's residents supported the move in a regional referendum. Nevertheless, the reunification was not recognized by the majority of Western countries, including the European Union. Moscow has repeatedly said that Crimea conducted the referendum in compliance with the international law.

Despite tensions around Crimea, dozens of foreign delegations visit the peninsula annually.
