Nigerian Troops Kill 5 Bandits, Lose 1 Soldier in Northern State of Kaduna - Official

Nigerian troops killed five bandits and lost one soldier in a gun fight in northern Nigeria's Kaduna state, local media reported on Thursday, citing a military official.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Nigerian troops killed five bandits and lost one soldier in a gun fight in northern Nigeria's Kaduna state, local media reported on Thursday, citing a military official.

Following an emergency call about an armed robbery in Kaduna, the troops started the pursuit and ran into the bandits' ambush. They managed to overpower the bandits, although two soldiers were injured.

"During the pursuit of the bandits in the forest, five bandits dead bodies were found. Among the eliminated bandits was a notorious bandit from Zamfara identified as Sani Danbuzuwa ... Regrettably, we lost one soldier and two were injured," 1 Division's Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Muhammad Dole said, as quoted by Nigerian newspaper The Daily Sun.

He added that the injured soldiers were undergoing treatment in a hospital in Kaduna.

Kaduna's emirate of Bini Gwani has recently faced an upsurge in bandits' deadly attacks, which may force people to flee the area like it happened in northeastern Borno State's town of Gwoza, according to local media. In 2014, Gwoza suffered a terrorist act that left at least 200 civilians dead.

Nigerian authorities are fighting against various militant groups, most prominently from the Boko Haram terrorist insurgency.
