"Everyone who knows Vice President Biden knows that he gives our party and our country his all, but unfortunately he is sick and is under doctor's order not to travel," House said.
The event ahead of the November midterm elections was scheduled for Thursday and will still take place as initially planned.
House said circumstances surrounding Bidens cancellation were "simply unavoidable."
US media reported that the former vice president's illness is nothing serious, but he needs a few days to rest.
Biden has been repeatedly mentioned by the media a possible Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential election. Biden has not ruled the possibility to enter the race and continues to be one of the most vocal critics of President Donald Trump and his policies.
