Autostrade per l'Italia Firm Responsible for Genoa Bridge Safety - Conte

Autostrade per l'Italia company managing the Morandi bridge, which collapsed in Italy's northwestern city of Genoa, was responsible for its safety and the firm's concession should be revoked, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Wednesday.

ROME (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) Autostrade per l'Italia company managing the Morandi bridge, which collapsed in Italy's northwestern city of Genoa, was responsible for its safety and the firm's concession should be revoked, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Wednesday.

"We will launch the procedure to revoke the company's concession ... We cannot wait for criminal investigation results," Conte said following an emergency cabinet meeting.

Earlier in the day, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio also blamed Autostrade per l'Italia for the tragic collapse.

A large section of the bridge collapsed on Tuesday at about 11 a.m. local time (09:00 GMT), leaving at least 39 people dead.

The Italian government imposed a year-long state of emergency in Liguria and allocated 5 million Euros (some $5.7 million) to mitigate the consequences of the incident.
