WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th August, 2018) US Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Aloysio Nunes discussed defense issues and confirmed their nations close bilateral relationship in talks in Brasilia, the Department of Defense said in a readout.
"Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis met with Brazil Minister of Foreign Affairs Aloysio Nunes [on] August 13 at the Itamaraty Palace in Brazil to reaffirm the long-standing bilateral relationship between the United States and Brazil," the readout said on Monday.
Mattis and Nunes discussed a broad range of defense issues and the US defense secretary thanked the Brazilian minister for his country's global leadership in peacekeeping missions around the world, the Defense Department said.
"They agreed their countries' common values of Inter-American principles of human rights, the rule of law and peace are a solid foundation for a long-term strategic partnership," the readout said.
Mattis is also scheduled to visit Argentina, Chile and Colombia this week on his current trip to strengthen US defense ties with major nations in the region, the Defense Department said.
