Code of conduct violation: ECP issues Imran Khan's victory notification following apology

Imran Khan had won all five seats he contested from

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 9th August, 2018) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s apology over violating election code of conduct and had directed to issue his success notification.

A four-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza announced the reserved verdict in offensive language case.

Imran Khan’s counsel Babar Awan appeared before the court and submitted a written reply in today's hearing.

Imran Khan had issued an apology for referring to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) supporters as ‘donkeys’.

Following the apology, the ECP has issued Khan's success notification.

In a violation of election code of conduct, Imran Khan had cast his vote in Islamabad openly, in front of the media. He had also talked to media on Election Day violating the ECP code of conduct.

Moreover, taking a jibe at rival Nawaz Sharif's party during his election campaign, Khan had said that those who have gone to receive the embattled former prime minister at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore were ‘donkeys’.

"How will Muslim Leaguers go to the airport to receive Nawaz Sharif? Will they tell their children that they went to welcome the thief (Sharif) who had looted billions of rupees from the country?" he said while addressing a rally in Narowal on Thursday.

He said that no PMLN party worker with a clear conscience would go to the airport to receive Sharif. "And whoever will go to receive him will be a donkey (fool)," he had said.

Taking a suo moto notice, the ECP had summoned the PTI chairman to appear before it in person or through a counsel on July 19 for using 'abusive, insolent and derogatory' language during the election campaign.

Imran Khan had won all five seats he contested from, including NA-95 Mianwali, NA-131 Lahore, NA-243 Karachi, NA-35 Bannu and NA-53 Islamabad. The ECP had withheld the notification declaring his victory which will now be issued.
