Imran Khan promised to open constituencies, not recount votes: Babar Awan

The opponents of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called out on Imran Khan for not keeping his word.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 8th August, 2018) The Supreme Court has suspended Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to recount votes in NA-131.

During the hearing, Imran Khan’s counsel Babar Awan in a rather strange argument said that Imran Khan had promised to open the Constituencies, not recount the votes.

Babar Awan is being criticized for this statement. The opponents of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called out on Imran Khan for not keeping his word.

Speaking about allegations of election rigging in his victory speech, Imran Khan had said that he is ready to investigate them.

"The present Election Commission was appointed by two leading parties - PPP and PMLN while the caretaker government is also forrmed by the consent of all the parties," he said.

"In 2013 elections, there were 400 petitions of rigging. I demanded to reopen four constituencies. Today I am saying that I am ready to investigate rigging allegations," Khan had said.

Earlier today, the Supreme Court accepted Imran Khan’s petition against the vote recount in NA-131.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Saad Rafique’s counsel said that Imran Khan had agreed to open all the constituencies. To this, the chief justice said that it was a political speech and has nothing to do with us. We take decisions according to law.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan said that the High Court cannot interfere in the matters of the Election Commission.

The result has been formulated. Saad Rafique’s counsel said that they would go to the election tribunal if Imran Khan retained his NA-131 seat.

The LHC while rejecting Imran Khan’s petition against vote recount had on Saturday ordered a recount in NA-131, Lahore.

It had stopped the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from issuing notification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan's victory from NA-131.

Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh passed the orders while allowing a petition filed by runner up Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Khawaja Saad Rafique.

The former railways minister had lost to the PTI chief by a difference of 680 votes, receiving 83,633 votes against Imran Khan's 84,313.
