GCC participates in UN conference on prevention of illicit small arms trade

VIENNA, (Pakistan Point News - 01st Jul, 2018) The GCC Permanent Mission to the UN in Vienna has participated in the UN 3rd Review Conference (RevCon3) on the progress made in the implementation of the Programme of Action to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects and its International Tracing Instrument, ITI, organised by the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs from June 18th to 29th in New York.

Councilor Faysal bin Rashid Al Kawari and Abdullmajeed bin Salih Al Mandeel represented the GCC mission in the conference.

The review conference provides a once-per-six-years opportunity to coherently address the uncontrolled flow and illicit circulation of small arms which disrupt communities around the world.

The partiicpating countries reaffirmed their commitment to the full and effective implementation of all of the provisions of the Programme of Action and the International Tracing Instrument in the period from 2018 to 2024, with a view to ending the human suffering caused by the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons. In addition to dealing with negative effects of this phenomenon.

They encouraged States, relevant United Nations offices, the International Criminal Police Organisation, INTERPOL, and the World Customs Organisation to enhance coordination, and share best practices and lessons learned, for the full and effective implementation of the Programme of Action.
