ABYAN, (Pakistan Point News - 01st Jul, 2018) The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, continues organising mass weddings in Yemen, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, with the participation of 2,400 young people residing in eight governorates.
The ERC, on Friday, organised the 4th group wedding in Abyan Governorate, which included the assistance of a number of officials from the governorate and ERC delegations.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, stressed that His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s initiative is part of the support provided by the UAE to the Yemeni people and coincides with the 100th birth anniversary of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
"This initiative highlights our leadership’s determination to follow Sheikh Zayed in supporting the Yemeni people and providing them with their basic needs. The group weddings echo the UAE’s, and its leadership’s vision, of assisting young Yemeni people with all means of social and psychological stability, helping them to shoulder their responsibilities of building their country in the future," he added.
Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General, stressed that the charity has a clear-cut work plan for organising group weddings, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed and the follow-up of Sheikh Hamdan.
This initiative shows that our leadership is fully aware of the economic and social conditions in Yemen and the aspirations of the young people, in attaining social stability and decent lives, he said.
"The dire economic conditions forced Yemeni youth to refrain from getting married, and this initiative was launched with the ultimate objective of reducing marriage costs and promoting social cohesion. We organised group weddings in Hadramaut, Aden, Socotra and Abyan, and made all necessary arrangements for organising similar events in Taiz, Dhala, Shabwa and Mocha," Al Falahi added.
Praising His Highness Sheikh Mohamed's initiative, Lt. General Abu Baker Hussein Salim, Governor of Abyan, said that it reflects the strong relationship between the UAE and Yemen and helps the Yemeni youth to attain their dreams of marriage and social stability.
He also thanked Sheikh Hamdan for the unrelenting humanitarian and developmental support provided by the ERC to the governorate's residents over the last few years.
