Army backed Nawaz Sharif in 2013 elections, claims Imran Khan

Says the judiciary has helped Nawaz Sharif in the past while the army has always supported him

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 4th May, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that the army has always backed Nawaz Sharif.

He said that the judiciary helped Nawaz Sharif while the army has always supported him.

“General Zia-ul-Haq made a politician out of a non-political businessman in 1990. They made Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (Islamic Democratic Alliance) in 1990 and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) gave him money from Mehran Bank. The ISI DG submitted a report in Supreme Court claiming that they gave the money but the judiciary defended Nawaz Sharif. They didn’t hear any case. If it were someone else instead of Nawaz, he would have been excluded from the politics,” the PTI chairman said.

He further said that the army helped him in 1990 when in 1996, they dissolved Benazir Bhutto’s government and helped Nawaz Sharif in winning the elections.

Khan went on to say that the army helped them in 2013 elections as well. “The judicial commission formed on election rigging said that the army had gathered around returning officers while votes were being cast. Have you ever heard that politicians were stopped from entering the polling stations where results were being announced?” he said.

“Brigadier Ranjha helped them in Punjab who was given the position of Anti-Corruption officer later. There is no doubt about it that the army completely supported them in Punjab,” Khan added.
